The much awaited impeachment motion against Murang’a County
Assembly Speaker Johnson Mukuha has failed.
The motion by Rwathia
MCA Kenneth Kamau failed to attain the threshold after the assembly Clerk Kuria
Thuita received withdrawal of signatures from the members, on the notice of
motion on the removal of the speaker from
the office.
Deputy speaker Moses Gachui in a communication to the assembly said
following the withdrawal of signatures the motion does not meet the one third
signature requirement pursuant to the standing order.
“Subsequently the motion fails to meet the required
threshold for debate in the assembly,”
said Gachui also the Kihumbu ini ward.
Kamau implicated the speaker with misappropriation of funds,
financial mismanagement, and nepotism among others.
Other claims against him include micro-managing the county
assembly, insubordination among others.
A source divulged that 36 MCAs last week were in support of the
impeachment motion before the notice of motion was tabled in the county
assembly.
