In five years corruption 635 have been investigated, says EACC official

Senior staff at the Murang’a County Government have been warned against being corrupt as they render services, with an order to a servant to return of Sh800,000 that had been corruptly obtained.
Governor Irungu Kang’ata warned the public servants against falling into corruption as they are closely monitored by the EACC.
Speaking when he hosted EACC officials ahead of the International Corruption Day that will be celebrated at Murang’a University of Technology (MUT) on Saturday, the governor said, the officer implicated with handing the amount has been asked to refund the money to the private developer
“The taxpayer came and testified before an executive committee, where the culprit was directed to refund the amount pending other disciplinary action by the county public service board,” said the governor.

The Governor, flanked by his deputy Stephen Munania said his administration was open to the EACC and Auditor General Office, where all the documents required would be submitted for their analysis.
During the function, EACC Preventive Programmes Director MrVincent Okong’o said the commission is striving towards making the country corruption free.
The director lauded the Murang’a County Government for teaming up with the commission to fight corruption.
“ In the last five years, the commission has recovered cash and assets worth Sh23.7 billion, disrupted corruption avenues thus securing Sh36 billion,” said Okong’o.
He adds that the commission was pursuing to recover property and assets worth Sh40 billion.

Revenue at Murang’a Level Five Hospital has improved from Sh80,000 to Sh 400,000 daily owing to the automation.
