A gang specialized in breaking into coffee factories is back in Murang’a county.
On Monday morning, a gang of unknown number struck at Karurumo coffee factory in Gathera village, collecting more than 20 bags of coffee from the drying tables.
During the incident, CCTV camera system was disabled as the gang took away the server to hire their tracks.
A farmer, Joseph Kamande said theft should be investigated as the gang only loaded in sacks PP1 grade leaving behind the others grades in the drying tables.
“The harvesting of coffee started in April and the gang struck when we were closing the harvesting season,” said Mr. Kamande.
Murang’a South Police Commander Ms. Jane Nyakiruma said the matter was under investigation calling on the public to volunteer information to help in the recovery of the stolen parchment coffee.
She said the matter was an inside job as officials took a long to alert the authorities of the incident.
“Three watchmen are in police custody under investigations as the factory management committee expected to record their statement with the police,” said Nyakiruma.
The incident happened five years after the cooperative societies officials were asked to request for a police guard in their factories once harvesting starts.
