More than 200 students have registered  to enroll at Kigumo  Vocation  and Technical Institute in Murang’a county following a spirited campaign by leaders.

The facility with capacity to  accommodate 1,000 students  was commissioned by the local MP Joseph Munyoro who has been  pleading with the youth  to pursue technical courses.

Another 100 youth have registered their commitment to join the institution.

Munyoro after he was elected pledged to sponsor the first 200 learners  who will register  at the facility  constructed by the national government in partnership  with NG- CDF.

“ Am interested in transforming the Kigumo  constituency through producing   youth  with technical skills.  In the county demand  for electricians and plumbers is on the rise thus the need for the youth to pursue the technical  courses,” said Munyoro.

He was accompanied by local leaders led by MCAs, Moses Mirara( Kangari) and  Boniface Mbau ( Muthithi) issued a cheque of Sh 8 million to facilitate  completion  of the facility.

Following commissioning of the institute the locals  around Muthithi market are  constructing rental houses to accommodate hundreds of learners.

The area residents, the MP added, should take advantage of constructing rental houses as Murang’a University of Technology (MUT) was preparing to  establish a School of Agriculture  at Mariira Farmers Training College.

“  Once the institution opens  we shall ensure  there  will be a bus that will be transporting the students to the facility  from their homes,” said the MP.

During the function, Mirara pleaded with the youth  to  undertake the  short courses  instead of idling in the villages.
