More than 200 students have registered to enroll at Kigumo Vocation and Technical Institute in Murang’a county following a spirited campaign by leaders.
The facility with capacity to accommodate 1,000 students was commissioned by the local MP Joseph Munyoro who has been pleading with the youth to pursue technical courses.
Another 100 youth have registered their commitment to join the institution.
Munyoro after he was elected pledged to sponsor the first 200 learners who will register at the facility constructed by the national government in partnership with NG- CDF.

“ Am interested in transforming the Kigumo constituency through producing youth with technical skills. In the county demand for electricians and plumbers is on the rise thus the need for the youth to pursue the technical courses,” said Munyoro.
He was accompanied by local leaders led by MCAs, Moses Mirara( Kangari) and Boniface Mbau ( Muthithi) issued a cheque of Sh 8 million to facilitate completion of the facility.

Following commissioning of the institute the locals around Muthithi market are constructing rental houses to accommodate hundreds of learners.
The area residents, the MP added, should take advantage of constructing rental houses as Murang’a University of Technology (MUT) was preparing to establish a School of Agriculture at Mariira Farmers Training College.

“ Once the institution opens we shall ensure there will be a bus that will be transporting the students to the facility from their homes,” said the MP.
During the function, Mirara pleaded with the youth to undertake the short courses instead of idling in the villages.

“It is the high time the youth are motivated to go for the marketable courses eying for the future,” said the Kangari MCA.
