MKU founder Simon Gicharu appointed water regulatory board chairman

 President
Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed Mount Kenya University (MKU) founder Simon
Gicharu the chairperson of the Water Service Regulatory Board (WSRB) for three
years. Gicharu is taking over from the Laikipia governor-elect Joshua Irungu.

Gicharu’s
appointment was announced through a gazette notice published on August 5. The
MKU founder is also a board member at Thika Water and Sewerage Company.


The President
first appointed Gicharu chairman of the Geothermal Development Company and
later named him chairman of the Rural Electrification Authority
(REA).  In 2019, following the earlier expiry of his first term where
he is credited with helping connection of electricity to Kenyan
public schools, Uhuru reappointed him for another period of three years.

Others appointed by the President include Linus Gitahi
chairperson of the Board of Directors of Rivatex East Africa Limited for three
years. Amb Dennis Awori becomes a member of the State Corporations Advisory
Committee for a period of three years.

Bobby Aditya Kamani, Managing Director of Diani Reef Beach Resort
& Spa, has also landed a government appointment. Kamani, for his part,
has been appointed by Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala to
serve as a board member at the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) for a three-year term
beginning August 5.

Other appointments include Gen (rtd) Joseph Raymond Kibwana, who
has been reinstated as chairman of the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), and Mr
Linus Gitahi, a former media executive appointed as board chair of Rivatex East
Africa. Fatma Naaman Muses has been appointed chairperson of the Kenyatta
International Convention Centre (KICC), Charles Mugo Ciuri as chairperson of
the Kenya Urban Roads Authority, and Winfrida Ngumi as chairperson of the Kenya
National Highways Authority.

Omar Mohammed has been appointed for a two-year term as
chairperson of the Kenya National Library Services Board while Christine
Anyango Agimba was appointed chairperson of the Kenya Law Reform Commission for
six years. Retired Major General Lucas Kyonze Tumbo was appointed chairperson
of the Advisory Committee on Military Veterans for four years.

Donald Apollo Kokonya becomes a Non-executive chairperson of the
Board of Directors of the Kenya Board of Mental Health while John Waithaka is a
non-executive chairperson of the Kenya Forestry Research Institute. Nabila
Khanbhai has been named as Non-Executive Chairperson of the Kenya Tissue and
Transplant Authority, while Robert Mwangi Kariuki becomes chairperson of the Kenya
Water Towers Agency Board.

Noor Musa has been appointed chairperson of the board of directors
of the Kenya Fisheries Service (KFS).

In the Gazette notice published on August 5,
President Uhuru Kenyatta also appointed Cecilia Mbinya Mutuku and Dr. John Ogallo
to be members of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) for six
years.
  

Dr. Nabila Khanbhai joins the Kenya Tissue and Transplant
Authority, while Geoffrey Gitu Mbirua is at the National Aids Control Council, and Robert Mwangi Kariuki is chairperson of the Kenya Water Towers Agency
Board.

Also appointed Jas Bedi as a Non-Executive Chairperson of the
Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency Board for three years, Capt. Paul
Rukaria  as chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya National
Trading Corporation for three years, Col. (Rtd.) Noor Musa as Chairperson of
the Board of the Kenya Fisheries Service for three years, Phyllis Wakiaga as
chairperson of the Kenya Roads Board for three years, and Charles Mugo Chiuri
(Eng.) as Chairperson of the Board of the Kenya Urban Roads Authority for three
years.
