Battle for Isiolo Governorship has kicked off with Sakuye community leaders endorsing Governor Mohammed Kuti  to run.

The elders endorsed Dr  Kuti to defend the slot  for a second term  and face other candidates   who include the  former Governor Godana Doyo, former EACC CEO Halake Dida, Hussein Tene, Hudson Kinywa and Mohamed Huka among others.

They met at Bantu Resort in Nyeri County where they negotiated democracy in the process of nominating aspirants for various political seats among pastoralist communities.

The elders drawn from all the 12 clans of the Sakuye community gave green light to the incumbent to defend his gubernatorial seat after a two days deliberation.

The community elders noted that the governor had done tremendous work towards transforming the lives of the people of Isiolo, and deserves the chance to accomplish his development agenda.

Led by Mr Isack Kara, the elders bestowed their blessings and gave him the mandate to approach other ethnic communities for political support, in order to ensure that his bid is successful.

‘’We are officially blessing Kuti for his re-election bid and we will now move to seek alliances with other communities living in Isiolo such as Borana, Meru, Turkana, Samburu and Somali to ensure that our candidate retains his seat.’’, said Kara.

The elders from Merti, Garbatulla and Isiolo sub-counties dressed their candidate in the  traditional regalia as a symbol of authority to represent the community’s political interest for another five year term.

Mzee Madera Bonaya among the 187 elders took part in the ceremony to bestow the community’s blessings on Governor Kuti, as he appealed to other ethnic communities to support their candidate who is ready to accomplish the programs and projects in the progress.

He hailed Kuti’s track record especially in infrastructure and health, arguing that the achievements under his leadership will leave a permanent mark and will be of great help to the coming generations.

The Governor thanked the elders for the faith they have bestowed on him since he began his political journey over 20 years ago.

“ The Isiolo electorate  should back my bid as I am ready to accomplish the work I started five years ago,” he said.
