After years of missing in action, Mt Kenya MPs  came out from their hideouts and moved to inspect development programmes in their backyard.

For the time since 2017, the MPs moved in a group of more than 10 ready to launch a scathing attack against Deputy President William Ruto.

The MPs who included Kanini Kega, Sabina Chege, Nduati Ngugi, Wanjiku Kibe, Jane Njiru, Jeremiah Kioni Wambugu Ngunjiri accompanied Transport and Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary James Macharia in the inspection of Kenol- Sagana- Marwa being converted to a dual carriage highway. They moved to discredit camp allied to Ruto led by MPs Ndindi Nyoro, Rigathi Gachagua and Alice Wahome that has been against the President after they retreated to United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Macharia said the 84 kilometers stretch is scheduled to be completed in July next year, a year before the schedule to reduce traffic congestion.

“This one of the major projects initiated by the government to increase connectivity with the northern parts of Kenya,” said Macharia.

The government, he explained, intends to complete 11,500 kilometers of road under tarmacking by the end of next year.

“In the first term of President Kenyatta two years were spent in planning where we did 3,000 kilometres of road. Between 2017 to date we have tarmacked 7,000 kilometres, and by end of the term we shall have done a total of 11,500 kilometres,” said the CS.

The politicians led by Kanini said they have now hit the ground to inspect the development programme undertaken by the national government.

He accused the deputy president William Ruto for having hoodwinked the Mt Kenya region through launching projects without budgetary allocations.

“The parliament allocates money for the projects, we are now inspecting the projects to ensure there is value for the money,” said Kieni MP.

Chege on her part said the projects funded by the government have improved the living standard of the people with hundreds of the youth employed in the construction projects.

“Along Kenol – Marwa road   there are graduates who have been absorbed and are earning thousands of shillings. Market centres along the corridor will also be rehabilitated  to give the traders a better working environment,” said Murang’a MP.
