There was a showdown between two Muranga Governor aspirants during a church function in Kangema.

During the function presided by Mt Kenya
Central ACK Bishop Dr Timothy Githere and attended by Parliament Speaker
Justin Muturi where the local leaders lauded Wairagu over his efforts
to distribute water.

Rwathia MCA Maina Mweri kicked off the debate when he said efforts made by Wairagu are remarkable in the village.
“We are satisfied with your efforts Mr PS when that time comes we are ready to support your bid”said Mweri.
Wairagu is popular following his Kwaura Kwaura slogan.
Wairagu in his address said Murang’a has water projects estimated at Sh10billion.
He said his desire is to ensure all parts of Murang’a will get water.

Chege in her address said was ready to take over the county leadership from Wa Iria.
He castigated leaders who commission government projects like their own, instead crediting the same to President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“Wairagu
has capacity to deal with water issues, thus the next government
should get Wairagu a Cabinet Secretary position to continue with the water and
irrigation programme” said Chege.
