Elders support Iria as they castigate those who installed Muturi

Plans to clean Gikuyu Shrine underway
By The Mountain Journal

Elders affiliated to Kikuyu Council of Elders
condemned the installation of Speaker Justin Muturi as Gema community spokesman
as they castigated elder Kung’u Muigai.

The elders led by Retired Father Joakim Gitonga
castigated the elders led by Kiarie Rugami saying the installation was out of
order.

In a meeting the elders took a swipe at Kung’u
over his remarks on Governor Mwangi wa Iria over opposing Muturi installation
on Saturday at Mukurwe wa Nyagathanga shrine.

Gitonga asked the governor to remain silent and
ignore responding to Kung’u over the illicit remarks.

“We plead with the governor to keep cool as we
disregard the installation of Muturi” said Gitonga. The governor had threatened
to storm the installation ceremony before hundreds of security officers were
mobilized to block any sort of interference at the shrine.

 A JOINT PRESS-STATEMENT BETWEEN
KIKUYU COUNCIL OF ELDERS (KCE, KIAMA KIA MA, ATHAMAKI, ATONYI AND AGONGONI OF
THE AGIKUYU.

DATE: 25th MAY 2021, NAIR

OBI

1.      We are
gathered here as leaders of the Agikuyu community, who are mandated to make key
decisions, permit and conduct all cultural rites and ceremonies, and guide and
give  directions on matters of culture, political leadership and
unity.

2.      Mukurwe Wa
Nyagathanga is the exclusive Shrine for the Kikuyu Nation under the custody of
Elders, Muranga County Government, National Museums of Kenya, Kuhumo Trust on
behalf of the Agikuyu Community. The main object of Mukurwe wa Nyagathanga is
prayers, gikuyu cultural ceremonies and a point for cultural pilgrimage.
Trespass is forbidden and an abomination of Gikuyu culture. As the recognized
Councils Elders Community, we are unanimous that any coronation must not be
held at the shrine as was recklessly carried out on Saturday 22nd May 2021
under the patronage of renegade elders.

3.      Hon J.B
Muturi has a constitutional and democratic right to aspire for any office of
his choice but was misled by the renegade elders to blatantly disrespect and
desecrate the most revered Agikuyu Shrine. There was no protocal followed and
no consultations were causing consternation among all stakeholders in the
region.

4.      We invite the
Hon JB Muturi to seat with recognized and mandated leaders of the Agikuyu. We
recognise the Hon JB Muturi as a National leader and elder of the Mbeere and a
proposed spokesman of Eastern mountain.

5.      We are
grateful to all Central Kenya leaders for showing absolute respect and honor
for the holiest community Shrine by not attending the reckless coronation
ceremony. This is a sure sign that you value your culture.

6.      We shall
carryout a cleansing rite / ceremony for Mukurwe wa Nyagathanga Shrine at the
earliest opportunity. We shall involve the Athamaki, Atonyi and cultural
priests (Agongoni) for the cleansing of the shrine and also to plead for God’s
mercy for the ignorant and innocent participants.

7.      Capt Kung’us
was banished from Kiama and is not allowed to attend, preside or oversee any
cultural ceremony due to his abusive culture, lies, intimidation of elders and
appointing himself as a patron, and has not undergone any Gikuyu Eldership rite
of passage. His vulgar utterances against H.E Mwangi wa Iria, the Governor of
Muranga County, elected by over 600,000 voters, from the precincts of the
Shrine is an abomination and abuse of culture, does not show Eldership. It has
become his character to sneer and abuse fellow elders.

8.       We each
have Shrines that we have chosen to respect since time immemorial. We shall
soon visit our fellow elders in Meru and Embu to explain our stand on the
Shrine because we are brothers. We love and respect their culture and Shrines.

9.  The Gikuyu leaders who are
registered legal representatives are:

a.  Athamaki Njathi wa Mbatia,
Boro wa Ngera, Kariuki wa Kabui and Thiongo wa Gitau

b. KCE, Wachira wa Kiago

c. Kiama Kia Ma, Ndungu wa
Gaithuma

d. Atonyi, Kigochi wa Waimiri,
Warorua wa Kimani and Wachira wa Kariu7ki

e. Dr Nyamu Njoka, Ngugi Ngethe,
Wahinya Wamiti, Dr Peter |Kiarie, Mwaniki Muriithi, Njoroge Njari, and Kihiko
Kibui

We commit ourselves to unity of the
community and the entire Mt Kenya region including embracing decisions of our
cultural and political leaders who we respect and pledge to work with for
greater peace and development in the region. We are one Kiam with different
distict roles and have no divisions amongst ourselves

10.  Finally we are unanimous
that the regional kingpin, spokesman and de-facto leader remains H.E. President
Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, and pledge to support his agenda including the Sagana
Accord for Unity and consultative processes in the region.
