Munya warns rogue traders on importing illegal dairy products

 

Agriculture CS Hon
Peter Munya has put on notice unscrupulous traders who are illegally importing
dairy products through the porous border points of Lodwar, Kacheliba and Ororo
and others who are trading with illegal imports in Mombasa and Eastleigh.

 The  CS  also warned dairy dealers
adulterating milk and using non food grade containers, producers not observing
withdrawal periods after animal treatment and use of poor quality and unsafe
ingredients in the manufacture of feeds saying that the government will catch
up with them very soon. 

 He spoke during the
commissioning of the National Dairy Laboratory of the Kenya Dairy Board. 

 In his address, Munya
said that the new laboratory will enhance the boards capacity to conduct
quality surveillance for enhanced quality and safety compliance. 


 With the
operationalization of the laboratory he said, the government’s Big 4 Agenda
will be achieved through enhanced quality food and nutritional security,
increased manufacturing through processing, value addition, traceability,
product diversification and market penetration.

 Earlier,Munya
Commissioned  Dr Igor Mann leather complex which has a leather footware
and goods manufacturing facilities at the Animal Health and Industry Training
Institute (AHITI) Kabete. 

 This facility will be
used to train youth in leather processing which will play a big role in our
leather industry by jobs creation from exporting finished leather
products. 


 The facility is
equipped with modern technology and machinery.

He also warned land grabbers
who have been targeting veterinary land.

He was speaking during
the Commissioning of the refurbished facilities at the Directorate of
Veterinary Services, Kabete.
