Teams have been formed
in across Mt Kenya region to deal firmly with individuals defaulting Covid 19
protocols.

Public Service Vehicles (PSV) will bear the
blunt after investigations revealed they have started overloading passengers
against the directive issued to stop the spread of the disease.

Police have started
operations to check if the PSVs have adhered to the protocols that included having
sanitizers, and passengers wearing face masks effectively.

In Murang’a County, teams
at the sub-county levels have been established to deal with individuals
defaulting Covid 19 protocols.

The team included
officers from national and county governments will start operation where the individuals will be put in behind bars.

Murang’a County Health
and Sanitation Executive Mr Joseph Mbai said following increased cases of Covid
19 in the county,  there is a need for
efforts from all quarters to contain the disease.

At Muriranja there are
11 patients and Kaharo there is one health worker recovering after he
contracted the disease in the cause of duty.

Muriranja is among the
biggest health facilities in the county after the referral facility.

Speaking at Kenol
market during the second round of fumigation of the 144 market centres, he said
PSV crew will be under surveillance after investigations revealed of gross
flouting of the regulations imposed.

“In Murang’a there are
nine patients hospitalised another 65 placed under home-based care, while 11 reported
dead. With the increased infections there is a need to do more,” said Mbai.

He said the county is
set to handle Covid 19 cases, as it has an equipped Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
with 35 beds, and isolation centres as ordered by the Ministry of Health in August.

“Nobody will be spared
in the crackdown as the governments will be working in partnership to hell stop
spread of Covid 19,” said Mbai.

Murang’a Governor
Mwangi wa Iria, he said, following the outbreak of second wave of the disease,
ordered for the repeat of fumigation as measure to control the disease.

“There is a schedule
prepared by department of public health to ensure the centres in the sub-counties will benefit from the programme,” said Mbai.

At the same time,
Municipality of Murang’a Public Health Officer Mr Alex Karanja has ordered the
business persons to place handwashing points outside their premises.

“We have noted that majority
of the traders withdrew the handwashing tanks, the few in place lack water and
soap,” said Karanja.
