Mathioya: Gitugi residents block a contractor

 Gitugi ward residents
have protested over poor workmanship along Gondo- Kanjahi road in Mathioya.

 The residents protested over the poor workmanship
on the 6.5 kilometres stretch that goes through Karung’e village, saying the
project should be redone.

Irate residents
planted bananas along the stretch to display their anger on the rehabilitation
of the feeder road connecting villagers with Kangema- Kiria ini road and Gitugi
market.

Led by Kamau Ngirigacha,
the residents said materials used on the stretch are of low quality thus
compromising the standard of the project.

“As the residents
served by the road feel betrayed as issues raised on the quality of the project, on the  contractor using sub-standard murram have been ignored,” said Kamau.  

They dug a trench  and planted bananas to block trucks  from transporting substandard road
construction materials in their area.

 The administrators watched from a distance as
the residents blocked the improvement of the section.
