Men are at risk of contracting the virus morethan the women, as CS Kagwe lauds Governor Mwangi wa Iria mission on Covid 19.
Efforts by Murang’a County Government to
combat Covid 19 won praise after they were declared the best.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe
lauded efforts made by Governor Mwangi wa Iria to combat the disease through
establishment of an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with 35 beds, in 19 days.
Kagwe said Murang’a has isolation beds above
the 300 threshold ordered by President Uhuru Kenyatta, as a requirement in all
the 47 counties.
“Murang’a has 345 beds above the threshold of
300 ordered by the government per county.
When the order was made, Murang’a had only 96 beds,” said the CS during
inspection of the county’s preparedness on Covid 19.
The CS inspected facilities at Murang’a
Level Five Hospital, accompanied by the Governor, Murang’a MP Sabina Chege
among other dignitaries.
He
commended Murang’a for the establishment of Kenneth Matiba Eye and
Dental Hospital ,saying it is recognition of the late Matiba following his
tireless efforts to serve the country.
The governor said Murang’a had 17
ventilators and required assistance for more to fully equip the ICU wing.
“Should there be a need for additional
isolation beds, Murang’a has enough space,” said Iria.
Chege who chairs the health parliamentary
committee on her part said the government has allocated Sh200 million for
improvement of Kigumo health centre and another Sh70million for Kirwara
district hospital.
“Covid 19 is real and it is the duty of all Kenyans
to observe all the directives by the government that include wearing of face
masks in the public and frequent handwashing,” she said.
Later at Kiria ini Mission Hospital, where
the CS opened Outpatient wing lauded faith based organisations have done a lot
in the promotions of health care services.
Kiria ini Mission Hospital, Kagwe said has
served hundreds of people in Murang’a, parts of Nyeri County and including his
Mukurwe ini constituency backyard.
Mathioya MP Peter Kimari lauded the
Catholic Church for the establishment of the facility that has assisted his
constituents for decades.
