Three sites where affordable
houses will be constructed in Murang’a county have been identified.
In a mission by Governor Mwangi wa
Iria and Housing Principal Secretary Charles Hinga, areas found suitable for
the programme are a public land named Kenol- Kabati, Makenji and a parcel next
to Murang’a GK Prisons.
Kenol- Kabati land measuring 34 acres was bought by Murang’a county government for the purpose of preserving land for future use in 2014
The Governor said the
President Uhuru Kenyatta legacy project on housing will help civil servants in
both county and national governments who travel long distances to Kenol and
Thika due to lack of houses in Murang’a town.
“The local community is also encouraged
to apply to benefit with the affordable housing programme, designed to ensure
all Kenyans despite their status have decent homes,” said Iria.
Mr Hinga on his part said
Murang’a County Government has identified the best sites for the
programme, due to the governor’s interest for his people.
He appealed to other counties to emulate Murang’a to fast track the process.
“The programme will help in wealth
creation as the youth will be involved in the construction activities.
Local shop keepers will have to increase their stock due to more
customers who will be visiting their premises,” said Hinga.
Hinga also toured the
Mitimbiri Sanitary Landfill funded by the World Bank at a billion shillings.
