Deputy President William Ruto said he
was ready to continue transforming the country after the exit of President
Uhuru Kenyatta.
The Deputy President said they formed
the government with Kenyatta in 2013, and are ready to continue with the national
transformation agenda after the retirement of President Uhuru.
Speaking at Gatura AIPCA market in
Gatanga, Murang’a, when returned in Central Kenya to consolidate his support
after the local county assemblies endorsed Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
“ We have to ensure the resources
trickle down to the rural folks instead of being concentrated in the high
offices. My interest in hustlers is to ensure the youth and mama mboga benefit
with the public resources,” said Ruto.
He was invited in Gatanga by lawyer Edward Mureu aspiring for the parliamentary seat who said he will work together with the community to fast track development.
He said there was no restriction to people visiting Gatanga constituency, as there was freedom of movement and speech.
” Am determined to work with the community leaders to ensure Gatanga shines. The Deputy President is my personal friend and his mission is to empower the residents,” said Mureu.
Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata recounted
he was thrown out from the Senate Majority Whip position after he wrote to the
President indicating the challenges that the constitutional amendments will
face in the Mt Kenya region.
“Now since I was ejected from the
position for telling the truth I decided to declare my support to the deputy
president who has strong backing,” said Kang’ata.
Other MPs were Ndindi Nyoro(Kiharu), Alice
Wahome,(Kandara) Rigathi Gachagua(Mathira), Moses Kuria, and Kimani Ichungw’a who accused their
rivals of attacking them instead of promoting BBI.
Nyoro said Deputy President remains the most popular candidate owing to his interaction with the common people.
” There are people trying to demean the deputy president but they will be in a rude shock owing to his popularity. Let them continue with their BBI as we have our own agenda,” said Kiharu MP.
Gachagua said there are people disturbing the President seeking for his endorsement.
” When our deputy president is one the ground there are people looking for endorsement from the president,” said Mathira MP.
