Traders at Witeithie
Market in Juja Sub- County, Kiambu downed their tools to demonstrate after they
woke up to find their only toilet that was under construction had been
vandalized by unknown goons the previous night.
The irate traders said
it was unfortunate that some people were jealous that a Juja parliamentary
Aspirant had undertaken to build the toilet that previous leadership and Kiambu
County had failed to do. Traders and their clients and suppliers are forced to
pay to answer calls of nature or seek help from neighbouring plots.
Police from Witeithie
move in swiftly to avert an ugly confrontation after the wailing traders
barricaded the entrance and leaving the market. The officers were forced to
cock their guns and draw tear gas canisters to disperse the traders as they
marched to the Thika-Nairobi Super Highway. The incident which started at 7 am
was brought under control at 11 am.
Witeithie MCA Julius
Macharia Taki recently said he had been approached by one of the Juja Parliamentary
aspirants who requested him(Macharia) to support.” I told him I would
support him on condition he put up the toilet, to which, he obliged, “the
MCA claimed.
Detractors and
opponents of the aspirants had earlier sponsored goons to oppose the project
which they saw as a major boost to the contender. The toilet was to be opened
this Friday.
Juja Sub- County
Police Commander Dorothy Migarusha said no casualty or arrest had been
reported. She said her officers were on the ground investigating the heinous
act.
“There are people
whose behaviors are even worse than the animals, Such as human caliber,
Have no value in this world, Do these hooligans have a functional iota
of the brain? This was nonsense and stupidity of the highest order,”
shouted Micheal Kamau.
Neither MCA Macharia
nor the contractor of the fateful toilet could be reached for comment.
