MCA take CEC position in Laikipia County

By The Mountain Journal

The MCA who was elevated to the position
of county executive committee member in charge of water and environment has
assumed office.

Peter Ole Matunge, an environmentalist
was last week vetted and cleared to occupy the position at the Laikipia county
government.

The CEC from Laikipia North region served
as a nominated MCA before he was proposed by Governor Ndiritu Muriithi to take
the position that was left behind by Njenga Kahiro.

Matunge faces the challenge of fitting in
the shoes of Kahiro who has established over 100 bore holes across the county.

“ I will work to ensure my mandate serves
the Laikipia people as expected,” said Matunge.

Joseph Njoroge and Regina Nyokabi from Segera
and Umande wards respectively say the county government should initiate ways to
ensure the residents downstream have access to clean water from the rivers
originating from Mt Kenya.

They said the residents in the lower parts
face a major challenge following the construction of illegal intakes in the
upper parts.

“ The farmers have
served for decades as the local leaders have failed to resolve the issues.  Some commercial farmers have obstructed the
rivers leaving those in the lower sides suffering,” said Nyokabi.

Also sworn in was
Wangari Wangari to take over the department of Agriculture and Livestock formerly
held by Dr Lucy Murugi who was dropped.

Murugi has moved to the governor Ndiritu Muriithi
office as a senior advisor jointly with Evans Kamau.

The following Acting Chief Officers have been nominated for
confirmation in the same departments they have been working in:

– Paul Njenga – Finance

– Jemimah Mburugu – Trade, Tourism and Cooperatives

– Eng Dorcas Korir – Land, Physical Planning and Housing

– Eng Duncan Muturi – Roads and Public Works

– Emily Kioko – Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries

– Winnie Mwangi – Innovation and Enterprise Development

– Eng June Kawira – Water, Environment and Natural Resources

– Ikinya Matindi – Administration and Public Services

Alice Kimemia is the new Chair of the Laikipia County Revenue
Board.
