The contentious
Infrastructure Bond of Sh1.5 billion
sought by the county government of Laikipia will be taken for public
participation.
Laikipia Finance and Economic Executive
Murungi Ndai in a circular has organized public consultation forums at the ward
level days after the document suffered a defeat at the county assembly.
In a notice, Ndai said
in compliance with article 33 of the constitution of Kenya, the county
government treasury has scheduled consultative meetings to receive views from the public, professional
groups and other interested persons .
“The public engagement
forums will be conducted from Wednesday June 16th to June 18”,
read the notice.
A month ago, Governor
Ndiritu Muriithi defended the bond saying it will help inject resources that
will be used to fast track development programmes in the county.
“ The bond will
support the establishment of water projects, opening of roads among other capital
development projects in the county,” said Mr Muriithi.
But
in the social media platforms, the bond
has met strong opposition from the
critics of the governor saying the county
will incur huge debts that will affect implementation of development.
