Kenya coffee sector is set for a speciality coffee auction facility in six months
President William Ruto, in a town hall meeting during the Agriculture and Food Systems Transformation Summit, attended by thousands of farmers drawn from various sectors within the agriculture docket, said Sh 100 million will be allocated for the establishment of the speciality coffee auction.

The head of state said the special auction for the speciality coffee will be based at the NCE, where the state will make it a world-class auction, backed by an ISO certified laboratory
“I am directing Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe to allocate Sh 100 million to facilitate the establishment of the speciality coffee auction in six months,” Ruto said.
Ruto spoke in reply to National Coffee Cooperative Union (NACHU) Chairman Mr Felix Mwai, who asked the government to help set up the speciality coffee auction for farmers eyeing the direct sales market.
Mwai said the coffee value chain process has been transparent from the factory, milling, and auction levels, compared to the past, when farmers left the produce at the factory level.
“We want a specialty conventional market for our coffee as the coffee has attracted international attention,” said Mwai.
“ In five days, farmers will have access to their money in the factory accounts after the sale of the produce through the DSS,” said Mwai.
