Change of guard at Lenana and Nanyuki national schools

The impact of students of unrest in over 200 learning institutions is being felt, with two principals having been transferred with one exiting teaching.
Lenana School Chief Principal William Kiplagat Kemei has been forced to take early retirement following the students’ strike on June 2, which impacted the institution negatively and yet to reclaim its glory.
The incoming Chief Principal Solomon Koech leaves Nanyuki High School and also witnessed an ugly incident after students protested over an alleged uncoordinated weekend challenge they had sponsored to a tune of over Sh 140,000.
Insiders reveal that Mr Kiplagat and Mr Koech have been friends since their youthful days.
At Lenana School Chairman of the Parents Association Mr Jonah Marahpash informed the parents through the official whatsapp groups of the transition of the Chief Principal, Lenana School Mr Kiplagat after he opted for an early retirement as he welcomed Mr Koech.
Kiplagat retirement was effective from August 1st, said the PA chairman in the communication to the parents, immediately after it was confirmed Koech was the incoming one
“On behalf of the Parents Association, Parents and Guardians I extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. Kemei for his dedicated service and leadership at Lenana School, and we welcome Mr. Koech as he takes up this new assignment,” read the message to parents and the stakeholders.
Lenana School was closed indefinitely on June 2, following student disturbances and unrest during night prep time as the students complained about the quality of the maroon festival that was held in the institution.
At Nanyuki High School, the exit of Koech was on Thirsday discussed in low tones after he following the students unrest last month following the failed Christian Union function at the institution.
The Parents Teachers Association Chairman George Macharia notified the parents of the transfer of Mr Koech saying the incoming is yet to be posted.
Macharia told the parents that, “Koech moves to Lenana School after four years at the school, where under his leadership it clinched a historic and record of a mean of 9.683.”
Koech confirmed proceeding to the Nairobi based National School, wishing his replacement who is yet to receive a transfer letter all the best.
“I am leaving for Lenana School after a happy stay at Nanyuki,” said Mr Koech when the Standard reached him.
Sources indicate that Ndururumo School Principal Mr Chege has been posted to Nanyukii Boys.
An insider in the school said Koech panicked after a mysterious fire erupted in one of the dormitories and consumed the learners personal effects that mattresses.
The matter, the insider hinted, was concealed by Koech as parents were informed hours later and invited to collect their sons.
Before Koech was posted in Nanyuki, he served at Kangaru Boys in Embu County.
