Murang’a County Assembly approved a Sh 12.5 billion budget for the year 2026/2027 that will be used in accelerating development in the 35 wards.
In the aligned budget by the MCAs, the recurrent budget got an allocation of Sh 8.2 billion.
Chairperson, Budget and appropriation Committee Charles Machigo allocated Sh 4.3 billion to the county’s development programmes, agriculture department got Sh205 million to facilitate food security and cash crop development programmes among other functions.
Another Sh350 million, he said had been allocated to fast track establishment of county aggregated Industrial Park, and Sh 280 million to enhance school feeding programme designed to retain the learners in schools.
The Assembly allocated Sh 455 million towards community projects spread across the 35 wards to ensure equitable development, another Sh100 million for the Smart Cities initiative to modernize urban infrastructure and service delivery in markets.
In the solarisation programme, designed to reduce expenditure the assembly allocated Sh 30 million to expand clean and affordable energy across the wards.
The Department of Health and sanitation got the lion’s share of Sh 3.5 billion where Sh 250 million allocated for drug procurement, Sh 230 million for Kang’ata Care, and Sh 200 million for health products, technologies to strengthen diagnostic. .
Machigo also the township MCA said, “The recurrent expenditure is at 66 percent development 34 percent and Sh 1.05 billion for the community based project.”
The assembly allocated the Governor Irungu Kang’ata office Sh 303 million for projects coordination and monitoring, Disaster Control among other functions.
In the budget, the county’s education Interventions programme got an allocation of Sh 238 million.
In the budget, the county assembly allocated itself Sh 851.5 million for the purposes of legislation, representation and oversight functions.
The Youth Department will share Sh 121.6 million into the functions of Sh 82.6 million for youth empowerment, Sh 22.1 million for sports development programmes among others.
The Department of Education was allocated Sh 822.1 million with ECDE getting Sh 137.5 million, Youth Polytechnics and Vocational Training Sh 8.5 million.
