Stop attacks on the retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, warns J. B Muturi

Former Attorney General J. B. Muturi has called  for an end to the sustained and increasingly hostile attacks directed at the retired President Uhuru Kenyatta by leaders within the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Muturi said the actions are reckless, unnecessary, and represent a direct affront to constitutional democracy.

“They are a calculated attempt to silence the former Head of State and curtail his political rights that are guaranteed to every Kenyan,” said Muturi.

The leaders’ fronting attacks on  Uhuru Kenyatta, he said,  are narrow minded and misguided  to frame  the attacks aimed at reducing the matter to a purely domestic issue.

Other leaders including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have defended Uhuru Kenyatta from the accusation leveled against him by the allies of the Broad based Government.

He warned that targeting Uhuru Kenyatta, was a ploy by Kenya Kwanza as we would not allow the intimidation , adding that  the United Alternative Government will firmly defend his constitutional and statutory rights.

“Their arguments betray a flimsy understanding of global politics and democratic practice. Kenya does not exist in isolation, there is a whole world beyond our borders where democratic norms are respected and upheld,” said Muturi in a statement.

He added that across the world retired leaders remain active participants in national and global affairs.

“Leaders such as Jakaya Kikwete, Bakili Muluzi, Jacob Zuma, Joaquim Chisanno,Khama, PM Nawaz Sharif, Late President Quincy Adams, Late Rtd PM Odinga among others continued to serve as influential voices long after leaving office. H.E Uhuru Kenyatta is entitled to the same democratic space,” he explained.

He warned Kenya Kwanza leaders  to  desist from this dangerous path of political intolerance.

“No political formation has the right to dictate the leadership, alliances, or internal affairs of another. We do not choose partners for them, and they will not choose partners for us,” he said.
