Since September 2022, the Government has been implementing a five-pronged initiative for the creation of jobs and income opportunities for the youth of our country.
For the first time in history, we have a sustained, deliberate, intentional and measurable programme to create as many jobs and income opportunities as possible.
The Deputy President Prof Kithure Kindiki, has outlined that approximately 300,000 jobs have been created in the public sector in terms of formal jobs.
 In the job market, Kazi kwa ground stream has created 500,000 jobs under the affordable housing, markets, student accommodation and institutional housing programme, while another 40,000 youths are engaged in the labour based Climate Worx Programme under the Nairobi Rivers Regeneration programme.
“The Kazi Mtandaoni programme has created 316,000 jobs in the online platforms, jitume labs, ICT hubs and business process outsourcing services, while the Kazi Majuu labour mobility programme has created 541,000 jobs,’ said the DP.
Speaking in a meeting with the Cabinet and Principal Secretaries, said the Interventions and investment in the blue economy space have also created 110, 000 jobs up to now under the Kazi Baharini programme.

He added that through support for individual start up micro businesses, 820,000 beneficiaries of the ongoing NYOTA programme and and another 200,000 small scale business people under the soon to be rolled out Kenya Jobs and Economic Transformation (KJET) programme, will add to the economic empowerment opportunities available.
Also present were Heads of Government Agencies to review the progress made, the challenges limiting progress and setting targets for the year ending 31 December 2026.
Agreed that that the Kazi Kwa ground programme should target 1 million jobs through the affordable housing, markets, student accommodation and institutional housing programme, while the Climate Work component should target 300,000 jobs.
Kazi Mtandaoni and Kazi Majuu programmes should target 1 million jobs each by the end of December,r while the Kazi Baharini programme should aim to employ 500,000 people by that time.
