Low turnout characterized tea farmers’ election as some went to their farms pluck their green leaf to compensate for the Friday loss.
Across Mt Kenya region, IEBC manned polling centres opened at 7 am as a few farmers streamed in to cast their votes, as the candidates mobilised those who are stranded in their homes.
At Nduti tea factory, the vice chairman Joe Mahugu said the majority of the buying centres opened early as scheduled.
“ We are mobilising the farmers to turn up in large numbers to ensure there is transparency,” said Mahugu.

Farmers affiliated to Ngere, Nduti, Makomboki, Rukuriri, Githambo, Njunu, Gatunguru, Kiru, Gacharage, Mununga and Ndima reports indicate they turned out to cast their votes.
At Ngere Tea Factory, the Vice Chairman James Githinji said the centres opened on time.
“We are now calling on farmers to turn up in large numbers to elect their representatives,” said Mr Githinji.
On Friday, the farmers counted losses after they camped at the polling centres as the IEBC failed to deliver the voting materials.
