Pomp and dance in Kambitii market after the much awaited water connectivity was commissioned by Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata.

The 30 kilometres pipeline from Kayahwe Treatment plant in Kiharu brought to an end  water scarcity at the busy market centre and its surroundings.

The project initiated by Murang’a Water and Sanitation Company (Muwasco) followed four months after it changed ownership to the Murang’a County Government.

The projects initiated by the Muwasco the governor listed them as Muchagara, Maranjau primary School and Kambiti market have spent Sh35 million.

“Since Muwasco belongs to the county government, which will be supported despite calls  by Water Service Regulatory Board (Wasreb) guidelines  on the service boundaries,” said  the Governor.

The county government has mandated Muwasco to establish service lines in the area that the regulator allocated Murang’a South Water (Muswasco) after it declined to transfer its ownership by the June 30 deadline that was imposed.

Muwasco Managing Director Eng Daniel Ng’ang’a said  they will  continue extending the service line to other areas.

“ We have connected 1,000 households and hope to connect more than 10,000 households,” he said, adding that  they required in excess of Sh100 million  to accomplish the mission.

Muwasco, Nga’ng’a said  was pleased  that it has brought to an end the suffering the locals have been going through when fetching  water from Saba Saba river.

Kambiti MCA Mr Laban Chomba lauded the initiative saying a lot of manpower hours were spent by the locals looking for water.

“ It is a sigh of relief to the residents in Kambiti and Maragua Ridge as they are served by Muwasco,” said the MCA.
