Men impregnate school girls will be forced to live
with them in their homes, to feel the
pain of additional burden.
Murang’a
Town MCA Jecinta Ng’ang’a said investigation has revealed married men were
responsible in abusing the minor, after they lure them into sex into promise to
buy sanitary towels.
She
spoke at Mjini primary school when she distributed sanitary towels to help keep
away the minors from sex pests.
“We shall ensure the men who impregnate this
small girls shoulder the burden of raising the babies while there are in their
homes,” she said.
In the initiative, Ng’ang’a target to provide more than 2,000 primary school girls with sanitary towels as well as
supporting them to undertake health and
lifestyle education.
In Murang’a county, a survey conducted has
revealed that majority of the victim of teenage pregnancies points at boda boda
riders and married men as they lovers.
Three months ago, committees at the sub
counties in Murang’a were formed to investigate on the alleged sex predators.
At the school, the girls revealed most of the
victims of teenage pregnancies were lured into sex following the poverty situation
in their homes.
They told the MCA their parents were poor and
could not afford to buy the necessities, thus leaving then at the hands of the
sex pests.
Their teachers
recounted how bright pupils drop out from school after they are impregnated to
enable them to raise their babies.
The teachers
said there was a need for a law to ensure the fathers take full responsibility of
their babies.
Ms Annie Mwega the deputy headteacher at Mjini
primary said teachers have been going through challenges on supporting the
young mothers.
“As women, we have the responsibility to guide
them on ways to avoid being lured into sex,” said Mwega.
Murang’a MP Sabina Chege embarked on data
collection on the victims an initiative supported by FIDA.
