Irate residents of
Kalalu village in Laikipia East  are
in pains following of the dilapidated road linking Maili Tisa and Umande
shopping centre.

The residents braved
downpours as they used all tools of trade to maintain the road as they accused
national and county leadership of abandoning their responsibilities.

The locals bought marram
and used several ox carts to ferry it to the site where they spent  hours
in community service.

Led by Rose Kinyua, they
residents said they have raised close to Sh60,000 to repair the road because
they felt neglected by their local leadership.

The action follows
heavy rains that have caused more destruction to the road network in Umande
ward.

Paul Mwangi,
a farmer, said they have been unable to transport agricultural
produce from their farms to the market due to poor road connectivity.

They appealed to the
National and County government to intervene and have the road upgraded to the
required standards.

In Mwireri and Mugumo areas, the locals are
demanding completion of Jua Kali- Muramati- Mwereri road that has remained
incomplete for more than four years.

“This place is
landlocked  the road is impassible thus
need for Lakipia East MP  to show concern
as the road is in a total mess,” said
Peter Muthamia.
