An audit has pointed to major irregularities in the Sh 96.3 million procurement of the dialysis equipment in Laikipia Country Government.
The audit report reveals that while 10 dialysis machines, 10 beds, and a water treatment plant were allegedly procured and delivered to Nyahururu and Nanyuki Hospitals, some equipment was faulty, broken down, and some were reported to have not been delivered.
At Nyahururu hospital, the report pointed out that two dialysis beds were returned as faulty and one machine broke down and yet to be replaced.
“At Nanyuki two sets of dialysis beds and machines were not delivered, with no proof they were ever supplied” read part of the report.
Auditors also noted that key documents, including inspection and acceptance certificates and approved requisitions, were not provided. Despite management claiming all equipment is available and in use, the audit committee found unresolved gaps.
The report recommends the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to investigate the administration of Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu on the Sh 96,297,500 tender to establish accountability and possible misuse of public funds.
