Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i joined Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba to popularise his presidential ambitions in Kiambu county.

Speaking at Thika PCEA Thika Church, Matiang’i and Wamuchomba asked President William Ruto and his Cabinet to stop the chest-thumping and, instead, champion peace through initiation of a national dialogue.

The former CS said it is unfortunate that those in positions of power, attempting to trivialize last Wednesday’s protest experienced in 22 counties, with claims that in Nairobi the youth were ferried from Central Kenya counties.
He said the utterances are working to blame the violence on one community, for their political interests..
Githunguri MP on her part castigated the directive to the police to shoot protesters, saying this will worsen the situation.
“The government seeks peaceful ways to end the crisis,” she said as he lauded Matiang’i as a leader with presidential qualities.

Church Minister Rev Daniel Kamau Nderitu, said the country’s leadership should be peacemakers and not warmongers.
“The government should listen to the youth and other Kenyans, but not suppress or kill them while expressing their grievances over governance issues,” said Rev Kamau.
