KTDA Chairman Enos Njeru is among the tea factory directors who were re-elected unopposed for the position of the board members.

In Mt Kenya region, Njeru was re-elected unopposed to represent zone six in the KTDA board of directors.

Ngere tea factory vice chairman Mr James Githinji from zone two was also re-elected  in zone two unopposed.

In the counties, directors cleared by IEBC to run for board members’ positions are campaigning for the Friday election.

Njeru said his passion in the tea industry will help him focus on exploration  for new markets  for Kenya’s produce to ensure the growers access better returns.

“Am happy that directors  from zone six re-elected me for  the BM position and am seeking  for the directors from the 54 tea factories  to support my bid to be re-elected for the second term as the KTDA chairman,” said Njeru.

Githinji, the vice chairman at Ngere tea factory, says he appreciates that the 36 directors from the six factories who endorsed him for the position.

“ Am happy that directors from Nduti, Ngere, Ikumbi, Gacharage, Makomboki and Njunu supported my bid for the board member position for a second term. I will always work  for the tea growers as it has been my passion,” said Githinji.

In zone three, Kiru Factory Chairman Chege Kirundi is fighting  for the BM slot  with Joseph Karanu,  the chairman at Githambo tea factory.

Kirundi had served in the position representing Kiru, Gatunguru, Kanyenya ini and Githambo tea factories.

Directors in Kirinyaga county are yet to conduct Board Member elections  owing to a civil suit lodged before Kerugoya high court by a section of growers citing the June 29 election  was not fair.

Special General meetings for farmers affiliated to Ndima and Mununga were not held following a court order issued by Justice Joe Omido, after 10 farmers represented by lawyer Ndegwa Njiru lodged a petition on grounds that the election was illegal as the IEBC was not fully constituted.

When the order was obtained farmers at Kimunye, and Thumaita had concluded their meetings approving  their directors.
