Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata has owned up to the challenges facing the health sector leading to protests by a section of the residents.

Kangata admitted that the concerns and challenges raised by the residents related to the health department are under investigation.

He said the challenges experienced ranging from shortage of drugs will be dealt with following the passage of legislation that allows utilization of revenue collected in the health facilities.

“ From February 1st resources collected in health facilities will be retained in the facilities and used to procure the requirements and them drugs,” said the governor,

“ I apologize to the people who have gone to the hospitals, and lacked drugs and missed medical staff to treat them, when they visited Murang’a Level Five Hospital at nights and during the weekends,” said the governor.

He blamed the challenges experienced by the sector for delaying the remittance of resources from the national treasuries.

“ The last trance to the counties was four months ago, despite the need to effect the service delivery,” said Kang’ata.

On Monday a whistleblower Jimmy Irungu took to social media to castigate the Kang’ata administration over the lack of drugs and medical staff to handle patients.

The Governor said his administration listens to people’s concerns and seeks their advice on how to make the services effective.

On Thursday, Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu said he had received concerns from the electorate among them a lack of drugs, absenteeism of health workers,  none performing imaging equipment, and an unreliable automation system.

“ The government should streamline operations in the health sector and ensure there is a manual system to replace the automation system,” said the senator.

Irungu now admitted at the facility claimed he had spent hours at the facility with other patients during the weekend where they were subjected to humiliation between 8 am and 9 pm.

“ I was on Wednesday admitted at the Murang’a Level Five Hospital after being diagnosed with stomach complications,” said Irungu.
