Fight for 6,600 acres of land between Murang’a County Government
and Kandara Residents Association has escalated, leading to alleged incitement
to the members to destroy construction materials at Makeji.

As the fight trained on to stop the county government from
constructing Kenneth Matiba Level Five Hospital on 1,400 acres of land, the
police summoned Kandara based politician Kibiru PMG Junior over the destruction
of construction materials.

Yesterday, Kibiru accused the county government of implicating
him, saying last week when he visited the site under construction nothing was
damaged.

“It is a pity that Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata directed
the contractor into the site, despite a Court of Appeal order that restrained
commencement of any work until there is an agreement,” said Kibiru.

Murang’a County Police Commander David Mathiu said Kibiru is
required to record his statement in Ithanga Police Division where the matter
was reported.

“He should record his statement in the sub county where the
incident was committed,” said Mathiu.

Efforts to reach Governor Irungu Kang’ata failed as the
residents’ said the battle to 6,600 members drawn from Murang’a and Kiambu will
not stop.

Lawyer Jackson Ikua said he will be proceeding to court to
institute application for a contempt against the county government for going
against the court order issued in November last year on utilization of the
Delmonte Kenya Limited land.

“ Kibiru went into the site  after the contractor moved
into the site which is against the rule of the law,” said the Lawyer who
accompanied Kibiru at the Murang’a County Police headquarters.

A member of the association Mzee Ngugi Karanja aged 101 years
blamed on Murang’a leadership over failing to ensure justice was done to the
victims of historical injustice.

“Am one of the people who were thrown out of the Delmonte land
by the whites, and I seek justice, and return to my ancestral land,” said
Karanja.

Mrs Nyambura Guchu in her 90’s says her life has been full of
pain and Kandara residents seek their return to the rightful lands.

“ I was young and watched as the white meted violence on the
community evicting them from parcels of land now under pineapple growing,” said
Nyambura.
