Relief in Kahumbu ward in Kigumo constituency after Kenya Power replaced the faulty transformers following pressure exerted by leaders after the residents’ outcry.
On Tuesday, the technicians restored the electricity supply at Gathima ini and Githembe villages, ending suffering the locals had gone due to blackout at g Gathima ini dispensary.
The supply was disconnected following vandalism of the transformers and draining of the coolant oils by the criminal elements.
On Thursday, last week, residents in the affected localities held a meeting at Githembe market castigating the Ministry of Energy for subjecting them to suffering despite constant reminders.
Led by their MCA Mr Chefman Njoroge, the residents lauded the restoration of electricity supply saying it marks the end of their suffering.
Njoroge thanked the national government for the restoration of the service, saying lighting will also help beef up security which was at stake.
“It is a relief as Gathima ini dispensary nearly shut down as vaccines in need of refrigeration had to be transported to Kandara or Kenol health facilities due to lack of electricity,”said the MCA.
He pleaded with Kenya Power to consider replacing the transformer at Gakuyu market adding that the locals are ready to protect the transformers from theft and draining of coolant oils.
Kigumo MP Joseph Munyoro said the replacement of the equipment follows engaging the top leadership at Kenya Power for several weeks.
Munyoro said he was forced to seek intervention from the Ministry of Energy to speed up the process to ease the suffering the residents were going through.
“I appreciate Kenya Power for timely restoration after the promise to restore electricity was issued. There is a high demand for the electricity thus affecting the distribution of the transformers,” said Munyoro.
He pleaded with the residents to keep watch at the transformers to save them from being targeted by the crooks
At the same time residents in Muhohoyo, Kamahuha in Maragua say they have gone without power for four months, thus being exposed to criminals.
They said they have begged the power company for weeks, getting false promises.
