Mount Kenya University Health Students Association (MKUHSA) and ACK Church- Mother’s Union recently conducted a health camp in Mithini village, Machakos County.
The event aimed to provide much-needed health services to the local community benefitting over 300 local residents.
The camp was set up in a small community church at Mithini Location. “We had a team of doctors, oral health officers, nurses, clinical officers, and community health workers who were all volunteering their time and knowledge to provide medical care to the people in the area.
The camp was open for a day, and during that time, we provided medical care to hundreds of people,” said Ahmed Shenga, President of MKUHSA who led the medical team.

The community benefited from the free medical camp where they accessed general medical check-ups, medication reviews, counseling for family planning, cervical & prostate cancer screening, dental care, and eye assessment.
The event also included health education (family planning, nutrition, diet, and public health) sessions and the distribution of essential medications including contraceptive methods.
“One of the most rewarding parts of the experience was seeing the impact we were having on people’s lives. We saw a lot of people with preventable illnesses, and it was clear that the village health camp was making a significant difference in their lives” Ahmed Shenga said.
The ACK Mothers Union church and Mithini community expressed their gratitude for the free services, and the organizers pledged to continue supporting similar initiatives. The health camp was a significant success and a great example of community involvement in promoting health and well-being.

Dr. Michael Mungoma, Dean MKU School of Pharmacy thanked the community leaders, and the church and acknowledged Kasha, a leading platform for digital retail and distribution of health goods for providing nurse and educational materials. This was a successful collaboration in organizing the medical camp and noted that it was a relief to the beneficiary to go home with free medical drugs.
