After
years of waiting, Gaturi residents look for happy days ahead to have
piped water in their homes.
After
the collapse of the Gakurwe water project in the 1990’s, water had been
used as a campaign platform by politicians who left the locals
thirsty.’
On
Sunday, residents couuld not believe that they witnessed the official
launch of the project where the government has invested millions of
shillings.
Launching
the project, Water and Irrigation Principal Secretary Wairagu wa Maii
said the project will be extended to the villages in the location, to
save the locals from the agony of being misused by selfish
politicians.
“Through
Gatamathi water company the government allocated resources to
facilitate the completion of the project,” said Wairagu at Gaitheri
ACK church.
The
PS later inspected the community water point and community water at
Kiambugi market where he said he was under instruction by President
Uhuru Kenyatta to ensure the residents in the shortest time possible
have access to clean water.
The locals recounted how they have been cheated by running away politicians who leave them using boreholes and other sources to quench their thirst.
At
the church, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro lauded efforts made by the PS to
provide the locals with water and decades of cheats.
“ I
come through this village and water has been a problem. Let me
appreciate the efforts made by Wairagu,” said Nyoro.
Wairagu
is among the leaders who are eying for the position of Murang’a
Governor.
Other
contenders for the position of governor are Senator Irungu Kang’ata,
MP Sabina Chege, Former MP Jamleck Kamau, former PS Irungu Nyakera.
