The government warehouses will be used in storing Kenyas’ tea, in efforts to explore good prices.

Agriculture and Livestock Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya said the warehouse belonging to various departments including National Cereals and Produce Board and NKPCU will be used to store the commodity.

Speaking when he met the management of KTDA, Munya said all the teas will be sold through the auction system with a reserve price  being worked on by the experts for the interest of the small scale growers who have been supporting the sector for decades.

In efforts to reduce costs, Munya said there are suggestions that teas from the upcountry will be transported to Mombasa auction market through the rail.

“ The government is doing everything possible  to bring down the cost of production  for the interest of the small scale growers who for long had been ignored despite his contribution,” said Munya when he addressed tea stakeholders in Nairobi.
