Laikipia county assembly has staged a coup that led to the ouster the majority leader Peter Thomi from the position.

The leadership of the assembly installed  Igwamiti MCA Joseph Kiguru  as the new majority leader, according to the communication
from the Speaker  Patrick Waigwa.

Thomi is the
MCA Githiga ward in Laikipia West sub-county.

The changes
effected by the speaker followed action by a letter from the
Assembly’s Chief Whip Sharubo Kaparo. Cause of the ouster remains unknown, as the two originate from  the vote rich Laikipia West region.

In the new changes, Mr Kaparo also replaced the deputy party
leader Mutahi Muritu (Tigithi ward) with Veronicah Ikunyua who is the Nanyuki
town ward representative.

Sossian ward MCA Jacob Edom together
with Thomi was also ejected from the County Public Service Board.

The two were replaced by Daniel Mugweru
(Umande and Catherine Kibue (nominated) respectively.

When reached for comments Thomi termed the
move as illegal and unconstitutional.

“I have no problem with being
removed but the party constitution must be followed and respected.  No reasons have been given for my ouster as
the rule of the law demands,” he said.

 Bitter MCA said he
will seek an explanation from the party following the unethical action.
