Tea Reforms taking shape with election of new directors in Murang’a

Tea
farmers affiliated to Kiru tea factory in Mathioya, Murang’a
will tomorrow head for an extraordinary meeting to join the league of nine other factories
that have held the meeting cum elections.
The growers
affiliated to the successful Kiru tea
processing plant will attend the
meeting following the invitation by their company secretary in respect to the
article of association after the
management delay to hold the AGM.
Chairman of Murang’a tea farmers Moffat Mbue said the farmers’ need for the reforms in the tea
sector has not changed.
“
We know KTDA has been working behind the scene
calling on the cancellation of the meetings which has been an exercise
in futility,” said Mbue speaking from
Kangari.
Kiru factory chairman Chege Kirundi says the meeting has not been cancelled as alleged by the destructors opposed to the reforms.
“
The meeting has been called by the farmers who called on the company secretary to issue a notice as the law of the rule
demands,” said Kirundi.
In the past three weeks, tea factories of
Njunu, Ngeere, Makomboki, Nduti, Ikumbi, Gacharage, Githambo, Kanyenya ini and
Gatunguru have held their election where new directors have been elected.
The
new directors have been listed by the office of the registrar of companies as the bona fide directors.
Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya in the past five months took the tea growers through the Tea Regulations 2020, before endorsed by The Senate and Parliament.
