which was abandoned and turned to a hideout for criminal gangs that terrorized the residents is
undergoing rehabilitation.
The facility that for long despite its pathetic was used for casting of votes, is being rehabilitated through joint
efforts by Murang’a Municipal Board and Murang’a County Government.
The multi-million shillings
work is among the projects lobbied by Township MCA Mrs Jecinta Wangari Ng’ang’a
following a request by the locals.
“The project has been in my heart as
a resident of Murang’a town as the social hall has been a meeting point for the
locals” said Ng’ang’a.

The facility suffered
misfortunes when water and electricity was disconnected following none payment
of bills, before the criminals, gangs turned it into a hideout.
A perimeter fence, she added will be
erected as part of security measures.
Mukuyu market, she said, generates
millions of shillings to Murang’a County Government as local revenue, thus need
to improve the public facilities.
Jane Njoroge a trader at the market told
The Mountain Journal that rehabilitation of the social hall was welcomed by the
locals.
“Absence of the hall forced the
locals to hire hotels conference rooms to deliberate their affairs. We welcome
the project with a lot of joy,” she said.
James Kimotho on his part said
within a short span, Mukuyu market that for decades had remained landlocked has
undergone transformation following interests showed by the MCA.
“I
appreciate all that has been done to Mukuyu market in a short span by the
MCA,” he said.
Other projects to give Murang’a town a face
lift through efforts by Ng’ang’a
including tarmacking of roads in the estates by Kenya Urban Roads Authority
(KURA).
