North MP Wanjiku Kibe has lost her parliamentary seat after the court nullified
her election.
High Court declared the seat vacant to allow
IEBC to conduct a fresh by-election after her 2017 win was nullified.
Justice Weldon Korir gave the order on grounds
that Wanjiku was not eligible to vie for the slot, as she was a member of
Kiambu County Assembly.
The petition was lodged by the former MP
Clement Waibara who faulted her candidature
before she resigned from the county assembly.
MP Wanjiku Kibe
Article 99 (2)(d) of the Constitution disqualifies a person
from being elected as MP if s/he is an MCA.
This happened when she was nominated by Jubilee
Party to vie from the parliamentary seat when she was in the county assembly
receiving benefits accorded to the position.
She is
the first MP in Kiambu county to lose her seat following an electoral petition.
