Away from politics, Senate
Majority Whip Irungu Kang’ata has been involved in food distribution to
Murang’a people current experiencing challenges following the outbreak of Covid
19.
Every weekend, the senator cools his heels by
being with the electorates, while strategizing for the next maneuvers of the
third revenue allocation formulae that has met stiff opposition in the senate.
This weekend the senator has been
distributing relief food to the needy persons in Kahuro and Kandara sub
counties.
Other leaders in the county who have been
involved in food distribution are MPs Peter Kimari (Mathioya), Mary Wamaua (Maragua),
Joseph Ngugi (Gatanga) and Sabina Chege( Murang’a).
Speaking at Kahuro the
senator said there was need for all to be considerate to other peoples’ needs,
especially during this pandemic.
On Monday, the government backed formulae of
revenue allocation to the counties failed leading to formation of a committee
to look into modalities that will enable disbursement.
Kang’ata introduced the formulae
based on one man one shillings perceived to favour densely populated counties as opposed to the previous method.
Mt Kenya region leaders have
backed the government proposal citing in the past they have been marginalized in the allocation as compared to counties in Northern and
Coastal Kenya.
Delay by the senate to agree on the formulae has
disrupted development and plans at the counties, with many of the function
headed to a grid halt.
