Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata has outlined that his administration embraced the collection of own source revenue through automation.

Through automation, he said, the county has continued working on development programmes thus spur growth.

Governor Irungu Kang'ata said last year's own source revenue was Sh1.116 billion from Sh682 million in the year 2022/23.

“ By March 16, we had managed to collect  Sh670 million, compared to Sh 591 million of March 16, last year,” revealed  Kang’ata as he addressed the Murang'a County Assembly.

He said he was focused on developing the county and uplifting the living standards of the residents adding that in  two and a half years, the county has made strides in development that include renovation of health facilities, ECDE centres, roads among others.

“Out of the 700 ECDE classrooms, 507 have been renovated in one way or the other giving the children  comfort and served with a cup of porridge daily,” said the governor.

He told the assembly that upscaling the feeding programme to primary schools requires the approval by the national government Ministry of Education and a budgetary allocation.

On Delmonte land that was ceded to the county government, Kang’ata appealed to the national government to fast track survey, beacon and process title deed, as the assembly formulated a master plan intending the county to establish an industrial city.

“An inventors conference slated for May this year,  will bring on board investors to deliberate on the land,” he explained.

In health care, he explained that since he assumed office, he initiated Kang’ata Care that has supported venerable families of 160,000 persons, saving them from selling their property to pay for treatment.

“ Within the period we have completed and renovated  30 new health facilities among them Kenneth Matiba hospital, completion of Kirwara Hospital new block, ongoing expansion in Mitumbiri health centres,” said the governor.

He mentioned Murang'a Youth Service (MYS) as another vibrant programme designed to assist the youth in acquiring skills to venture in self employment, after the government halted employment.

On waste management, he appealed to the national government to hasten completion of Mitumbiri Sanitary Landfill  to create space to process refuse from the growing Kenol region. Currently.

“Karii dumpsite in Muranga town is at saturation point, as there are investors  who will establish a sorting bay and also recycle plastic into diesel,” he revealed.
