Muturi installation face hurdles

Murang’a elders differs on consultation

By The Mountain Journal

Murang’a elders have given
different signals over installation of parliamentary speaker Justin Muturi as a
Mt Kenya spokesman.

Speaking in different
places, the elders differed on the manner in which the installation ceremony
will be conducted at the Mukurwe wa Nyagathanga Shrine in Gakuyu village in
Kiharu, Murang’a.

But a group of elders led by Kiarie Rugami supported
the installation ceremony saying, Muturi has been vetted and found qualified
for the spokesman slot.

Speaking  during the inspection of the preparation of
the shrine in readiness  for the Saturday
event where more than 700 people are expected from West of Mt Kenya, Mzee
Kiarie said there was need for the region
to have a spokesman as the politicians are busy with their assignments.

“Muturi has been vetted and
research on him proved he was best for the position,” said Kiarie who is the chairman
of the Murang’a council of elders.

But in Ndaka ini, Gatanga,
other elders convened and castigated holding of the ceremony at the Gikuyu
shrine saying it should be shifted to General Ihura stadium in Murang’a town
where in 2013, President Uhuru Kenyatta was crowned the community spokesman.

On the same note, Murang’a
Governor Mwangi wa Iria and Murang’a County Assembly voiced their concerns saying
the conveners of the function have not sought for permission to use the ground
from the county government.
