After he won election
in 2007, former Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau organized a home coming party that gave
birth to a foundation  to help the needy
students proceed with their secondary education.

While other leaders organized
feasts and distribution of goodies to their electorate, Kamau invited his friends, including former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and raised funds to support
students from the humble background to pursue their education.

He founded Jamleck
Kamau Foundation which is celebrated in the constituency to have assisted
hundreds of students to complete their secondary education and university
degrees.

Peter Njoroge from
Muthithi village is one of the many residents who benefited from the foundation
and presently a mechanical engineer attached to a road construction company.

“Am happy that Kamau
came to my rescue when I needed the support most after my parents could not
afford my secondary school fees,” said Eng Njoroge.

He further explained that
the foundation helped to increase the number of students from Kigumo at the institutions
of higher learning.

“There are professionals
from Kigumo who have a lot of respect for Kamau following his support. There are
lawyers and teachers who are products of Jamleck Kamau,” said Njoroge.

On the introduction of the economic stimulus package, Mary Nyambura, a resident of Kirere Market says the
former MP initiated the construction of Kigumo Girls High School, a relief to
hundreds of the students who had previously taken to schools in far distances.

Kamau’s action, she
said, helped many of the girls to get into a good school, saving them from
travelling long distances.

Our students used to go to Kamahuha, Kahuhia, Ruchu girls high schools, among
others but construction of Kigumo Girls  by Kamau is a blessing to support education of
the girl child,” said Nyambura.
