A second lands registry will be constructed in Murang’a at a cost of Sh300 million, with the focus on reducing heavy workload bestowed at the existing county register in Murang’a town.
Lands and Housing Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome said the establishment of the second land registry follows the passionate appeal by the residents from the lower parts of Murang’a after suffering major expenses in travelling when in search of crucial services.
The new facility will decongest services at the Murang’a County Lands Office, to serve the residents in Murang’a South, Gatanga, Ithanga, Kandara and Kigumo.

Wahome made the announcement as she received two refurbished containers donated by the European Union and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) that will serve as the temporary lands office at Makenji, Gatanga Constituency.
“ The lands registry in Muranga town presently handles more than 400,00 land parcels and the country needed new lands offices to cater for the increased workload,” said the CS as she thanked the EU and FAO for their collaboration with the State Department for Lands and Physical Planning in strengthening land governance.
Kenya Kwanza government, the CS added, remains committed to fulfilling this promise, bringing land services closer to the people and addressing longstanding land administration challenges.
FAO and the EU , she said, have been working with the Ministry of lands in building the new lands offices countrywide.

Others who accompanied Wahome were Director National Land Information Management System Ms Monica Abongo, Director of Survey Mr Weldon Maritim and the Head of Public Communications Mr Jibril Adan.
