A high level meeting convened by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has unlocked the bottlenecks that stalled the completion, commissioning and operationalization of County Aggregation and Industrial Parks (CAIPs).
During the meeting at the DPs Official Residence in Karen, Kindiki announced the commissioning of 8 CAIPs before the end of this year and another 13 by March next year, to stimulate grassroots socio-economic growth through manufacturing and value addition. The Meru County Aggregation and Industrial Park will be the first to be commissioned by President William Ruto this month, followed by Embu, Kirinyaga, Garissa, Wajir, Migori, Kisii and Busia CAIPs by December this year. Each CAIP will focus on the value addition of one product for sustainability before expanding to other products, creating jobs and income opportunities, as well as increasing earnings for farmers and livestock keepers.
During the meeting, Kindiki enumerated the strategic interventions made by the government to cushion farmers, including the reduction of price of certified seed and fertilizer, as well as the cost of sexed semen. This, according to the DP will help in increased production of crops, milk, meat and other products that are the raw materials for aggregation and value addition in the CAIPs.
At the same time, the Deputy President urged Kenyans to work with security and distaster management officers, and heed to their directives to avert loss of lives during the projected above normal torrential rains that are forecast to kick off anytime soon. Kindiki said the Government had put in place measures to cushion Kenyans during the projected Elnino weather, and urged all Counties to prioritise the preparations at local level, including the unclogging of drainages and dissemination of critical safety information to citizens at the grassroots.
