The coffee growers across the Mt Kenya region have registered better payment for the year 2025/2026, compared to three years ago.
In the counties of Murang’a, Nyeri, Kirinyaga and Embu, the cooperative societies have reported a turnaround in fortunes as societies that posted better prices are New Ngariama society through Kamwangi factory Sh 162 per kgs followed by Kinamui factory Sh 160 per kgs, Rung’eto society’s Kii Sh 155.62 per kgs and Karimukui Sh 155.55 per kgs and Kiangoi Sh 156.13 per kgs.
Nyeri based Gachatha fetched the rate of Sh 155 per kg which the farmers were joined by Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe in the celebration last week
Analysts in the sector attribute the success to production of the quality coffee, as the crop in Brazil and Colombia dropped owing to attacks of diseases.
Rungeto society farmers produced 5.5 million kgs earning a billion shillings with the payment rates being Kii Sh 155.62 per kgs, Karimukui Sh 155.55 per kgs and Kiangoi Sh 156.13 per kgs.

At Mutira cooperative society,Kagumo factory will pay at the rate of Sh 150.05 per kg.
Kabare Society’s Kiangombe factory Sh 148.95, Guama factory Sh 151.30 and Nyanja factory Sh157.40 .
In Murang’a, Wanjengi factory posted a payment of Sh 130.50kg after production of 627,000kgs of cherry.
The farmers cooperative societies whose coffee in the year was marketed by the Alliance Berries Limited achieved the highest payment followed by Kirinyaga Slopes and New KPCU.Kigumo MP Joseph Munyoro said he was impressed with the coffee prices based on farmers’ determination and following the advice from the agriculture experts.
“ The prices in the year 2025/2026 to the farmers are better than of 2022/2023, owing to their commitment in increasing production,” said Munyoro, also a member of COTEPA..
