Coffee market nets Sh 1.6 billion in the weekly auction

The Kenya coffee sector this week made a whopping Sh 1.6 billion after the auction of  31,173 bags in the weekly market at the Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE)

In the market, 19 local and international coffee buyers participated, with 12 coffee brokers presented 6,340 bags of grade AA, 14,440 grade AB and 3,590 bags of grade C.

“Alliance Berries Limited presented 10,153 bags that netted Sh 557.5 million, followed by Kirinyaga Slopes 5,671bags of coffee ( Sh 278.9 million), New KPCU 3,654 bags of coffee ( Sh 178.2 million), among others,” read the NCE report.

The report adds that the average price per bag was at Sh 34,700.

Kiandu factory achieved the highest price of Sh 54,537 per bag of grade AA, followed by Gatomboya Sh 54,408, Gititu Sh 54,150 all marketed by the Alliance Berries Limited.

In the certification of the coffee offered in the market, the report added that farmers affiliated to the Alliance Berries and Kirinyaga slopes offered the highest which was absorbed.

In the dealers category, NCE CEO Lisper Ndung’u reported that Ibero Kenya bought 14,231 bags,  C.Dormans  6,097 bags, Louis Dreyfus 3,565 bags, Kenyacof  2,116 bags, Taylor Winch  1,337 bought the highest volumes in the market. 

“ The offers on quality coffee have been on the rise and indicate better prices in the future,” said Ms Ndung’u.

 Other brokers were KCCE that delivered 2,446 bags, Kipkelion 2,029 bags, CEBBA 1,803 bags, Murang’a 527 bags, and Meru 600 bags.
