The united opposition pitched camp in Gitugi, Murang’a with leaders castigating the government for wedging war against the electorates through directing the police to clobber church goers.
Led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, the leaders included Martha Karua, Dr Fred Matiang’i. Eugene Wamalwa and J. B Muturi said the government was working through strategies designed to weaken the opposition leaders owing to the unity of Kenyans.
They also called on Kenyans to register as voters in readiness for the next general election.
Gachagua blamed last Sunday violence that rocked Witima ACK Church in Othaya, on the government saying it has accorded security to an individual politician.
“ Mt Kenya region votes are consolidated to ensure the wantam slogan will be a reality in the 2027 general election,” said Gachagua.
Karua on her part said there was a need for Kenyans to remain united to help committed and dedicated leaders work out on how the challenges will be dealt with.
“ We cannot allow the constitution to be sabotaged and allow the entry of dictatorial space as we have watched security men directed to take part in polls as agents and some being the youth wingers,” said Karua.
She regretted that former Police Commissioner Mohammed Ali was charged in ICC for taking illegal orders from politicians, before he was abandoned.
Wamalwa said the united opposition is in agreement to front one of them to take over from Ruto.
“Ruto should be aware that Wamalwa is not interested in joining the government as there is a network initiated to hunt the opposition leaders to Ruto’s side,” said Wamalwa.
He castigated Speaker Moses Wetangula for hitting at the opposition for voicing concerns on the bundled election preparation.
“ Concerns raised by the opposition that Jose Gregorio Camargo was spotted in State House should be addressed immediately and correct the chaos left behind by Wafula Chebukati in the IEBC,” said Wamalwa.
Matiang’i said the attack on the church by the police has been condemned as the violence meted out on Christians was uncalled for adding that the opposition will rally more than 70 percent of the votes.
“The government should stop playing with the country and instead listen to the people,” said the former CS.
The local leaders present were former Senators Joe Nyutu( Murang’a), John Kinyua,( Laikipia) Karungo Thangw’a( Kiambu), MPs Jane Kihara( Naivasha) Joseph Munyoro( Kigumo), Godfrey Wandeto( Tetu), Wanjiku Muhia( Kipipiri) among others.
Others are the former Mathioya MP Peter Kimari and Njathi Mwenga, and Peter Kaburi. Addah Nduta, Kenneth Kabui.
