Coffee market nets Sh1.8 billion, as the NCE proceeds  for a recess

The Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE) made a historic mark after it netted Sh 1.8 billion for the coffee farmers in estates and cooperatives after the auction of  30,406 bags.

The report indicates that Gititu Farmers  Co-operative Society in Kiambu County, and Gatomboya factory in Nyeri whose coffee was brokered by Alliance Berries Limited   achieved  Sh62,392 for each of the 44 bags of grade AA, and  Sh 61,490 respectively  for their produce at the market.

NCE CEO Lisper Ndung’u in her report said the coffee brokers  offered 11,100 bags of grade AA for Sh 732.6 million, followed by 13,402 bags of grade AB for Sh 830.8 million..

In the broker’s performance, Alliance Berries auctioned 11,709 bags for Sh760.8 million, Kirinyaga Slopes 2,694 bags ( Sh 166.8 million ), New KPCU 3,306 bags( Sh 204.6 million), CEBBA 1,987 bags (Sh112.2 million),  KCCE 1,462 bags ( Sh89.8 million) among others.

“Alliance Berries offered the highest volume of 5,300 bags of grade AA,  Kipkelion 1,067 bags,  Kirinyaga Slopes 1,034 bags, New KPCU 1,109 bags among others,” added Ms Ndung’u report.

Marimira factory affiliated to Iyego cooperative society auctioned 24 bags of grade AA each at  Sh 58,267.

Kigumo MP Joseph Munyoro said Irati, Marumi and Irigu ini have continued performing better in the auction platform owing to their farmers dedication to produce quality coffee.

“ The farmers are being asked to invest in the production of the quality coffee eying the local and international markets,” said Munyoro, a member of the Coffee and Tea Parliamentary group.

Peter Karomo a value chain expert appreciates the gains in the market pleading with the farmers to continue using the auction among the direct market opportunity to their satisfaction.

“ The auction of the large volume follows the attractive market after the coffee in South America has been hit by the frost.

The report indicated that 16 local and international buyers participated with  Ibero Kenya buying 7,582 bags, C.Dormans 5,181 bags, Taylor Winch 4,761 bags,  Sasini 4,220 bags, Kenyacof 3,923 bags among others.
